德國中學制度

德國的教育主要是由德國各個州負責，並非統一經由德國聯邦政府管理。 因為每個州都能決定自己的教育的政策方針以及教育系統，而一般學童都是從6歲開始接受12至13年的強制免費教育。

首先是為期4年的小學階段，小學畢業後便通過校內表現及老師的推薦而決定入讀合適的中學類別。

德國中學分4類 :

文理科中學在德國教育體系中是最資優的類別，學校極力強調學術學習的成績，與香港及英國的學校制度或美國的預科學校十分相似。其學程一般為 8 或 9 年，視乎德國各州的教育政策，學生於12 年級或 13 年級需要參與高中考試 Abitur。
文理科高中通常受學習及理解能力程度較高的學生歡迎，是進入高等大學教育必經之路，學生以考畢 Abitur 升大學為主要出路。

實用專科中學 Realschule

實用專科中學在德國教育體系中僅次於文理科高中。學生通常完成10年級畢業，並獲得中學畢業證書。優秀的學生可以進入專科文理科高中或普教文理科高中完成2至3年的高中課程，更可以參加職業先修學校或做學徒。實用專科中學特別強調配合社會經濟發展的需要科目，到了七年級有選修科目，如自然、工藝、美勞與第二外語（常為法文）。

基礎職業中學對學業程度欠佳的學生提供5年制的基礎普通教育，課程皆以職業先修為主，注重實踐但不失科學導向。學生通常完成9年班並獲得畢業證書。畢業生多繼續進入​雙元制職業培訓​ (Duales Ausbildungssytem）完成學徒訓練，並以從事手工業、製造業為主。

綜合中學的學生可以選擇於完成9或10年班後畢業。10年級畢業後，學生可以繼續升讀高中，或轉讀專業培訓課程。Gesamtschule的目標是提供均等的教育機會與適當的學習環境，讓學生身心充分發展，避免過早將學生分階並決定他們的學習模式，給予學生多樣化的課程選擇。
